Season started in Bahrain with F106.04.2016
Aku's first race weekend in TCR International Series in Bahrain was full of emotions. The result was disappointing, but Aku showed that his pace is good enough to battle for wins in this high level international series.
The qualifying was not an easy one as both free practises were very short due to technical issues and red flags. So Aku had to push as hard as possible without real knowledge of the limits. Aku's fastest lap was a good one and he ended up in P6 with only 0,16s to poletime.
The first race started well, Aku overtook one car. The pace was good, but after a couple of laps the brakes started to fade and it was difficult to maintain a good rhythm. Towards the end Aku was able to manage the brakes better and was actually faster than the cars in front of him. But on the last lap the gearbox was stuck on 3rd gear and Aku was lucky to maintain his 5th position with only 0,017s.
Race two started very well and Aku took 2nd position in the first corner. Unfortunately Aku struggled with the lauch control in the start and his car moved a bit forward before the green light. The race itself was a reasonable one and Aku finished third. Unfortunately there was not too much he could do against the top Seats. After the race the race stewards punished Aku with a 30s penalty, so the final position was 10.
So now the aim is at Estoril, where the next race weekend will take place in three weeks. The team will certainly do it's best to improve the car and Aku is fully motivated to do a good weekend with hopefully better results.
More news to come...
Aku will participate in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Monza together with Formula 1 next weekend. This is the second Supercup race for Aku and now the race will be on one of Aku's favourite circuits.
- It's great to race again in Monza with all the top drivers around the world. I am looking forward to have a good weekend. We had two test sessions last week and everything looks pretty good. It will be a busy week also after the Supercup race as the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia will continue in Vallelunga just one week after. It's good to be back on track!, says Aku.
News and information about live coverage will be published on Aku's website and Facebook. Let's race again...!
Aku joins LEM Racing in Porsche Carrera Cup Italia16.03.2015
This season brings Aku into a different situation, as he will race with LEM Racing in Porsche Carrera Cup Italia. LEM Racing is a new team supported by Centro Porsche Milano. The team manager is Lucio Vergani, who has a long career as a racing driver and as a race engineer.
Aku will start testing his brand new Porsche Carrera GT3 Cup next week and the first official tests will take place in Misano on 1.4.2015.
- I am really excited about this possibility to gather more experience with a powerful rear wheel driven car. Furthermore, LEM Racing is a professional team with a lot of experience, so I am really looking forward in jumping in my Porsche, explains Aku.
The first race will be in the legendary circuit of Monza at the end of May.
There will more news on these pages as the season really starts... tests, feelings and lot's of other exciting things! Stay tuned....
Aku received season trophies from AKK-Motorsport15.01.2015
AKK-Motorsport rewarded all the successful Finnish drivers at the prize-giving gala in Jyväskylä. Aku received two prizes, one for finishing third in the ETCC (European Touring Car Cup) in SMT and one for winning the Seat Cupra Cup Junior Class.
Now it is time to head to season 2015. It will certainly be a good one with a lot of new interesting things... Stay tuned!
Season 2014 over - 3rd in ETCC and 1st in Cupra Cup Junior Class02.10.2014
A long and busy season is done now - 11 international racing weekends, 22 starts. It was one of the best seasons for Aku as he finished 3rd in ETCC Single Make Trophy despite not having raced in the last round. Aku achieved 4 wins - more than anyone else.
Castrol Cupra Cup Italia was also succesfull. Aku won the Junior class again and was among the fastest drivers in every race. At the end of the season there were some technical troubles, but that is part of motorsport.
And at the end of the season Aku took part to Seat Leon Eurocup in Monza. It was a wonderful experience to drive a brand new car in one of the hardest one make series in the world. The result of the races were not quite what we expected, but Aku's pace was really good. He was second fastest among 27 drivers in qualifying with a very low experience with the car. This shows the potential and gives also confidence in future.
It is time to thank everyone who made this season possible : Niinivirta Transport Spa, Niinivirta European Cargo Oy, Seat Finland, B.D. Racing, Seat Motorsport Italia, Online Solutions, Kobra and HuoltoRengas Laiho.
Thank you! - Grazie! - kiitos!
The preparations for next season have already started. There is a lot of work to do before Aku will be on the starting grid of the first race weekend in 2015, but we are ready to meet the challenges!
AKU JOINS SEAT LEON EUROCUP IN MONZA21.09.2014
Aku will race with the new Seat Leon Cup Racer in Seat Leon Eurocup next weekend in Monza together with Seat Motorsport Italia. So he will not race in the last ETCC race in Pergusa although he leads the championship. This was a big decision for Aku, but he is sure that a race with a brand new car is an opportunity that cannot be missed.
Aku did a short test in Monza and the results were promising. The Leon Cup Racer is a well balanced and fast race car.
- I have to say that the Leon was very close to a perfect car for me. We found a good setup with the team, so I am really looking forward to next weekend. Of course there are still a lot of things to learn, but we will do our best to have a good result in Monza, says Aku with a smile on his face.
There will be two races in Monza, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Both races will be broadcasted live on Youtube. The timetable is as follows (CET, Finnish time: +1 h):
|Free practice 1||10.35 - 11.35|
|Free practice 2||16.30 - 17.00|
|Qualifying||9.45 - 10.15|
A hat trick in Salzburg!28.05.2014
Aku had a fantastic weekend in Salzburg. He was fastest in qualifying and won both races! Aku's car was good and the team was able to find and fix the problems after Slovakia.
- This feels extremely good. I was able to take the maximum points and extend my lead in the championship. And the next race will be in Spa, which is my favourite track and it is the first track in this championship that I am familiar with. So now we just have to make sure that there will be no technical problems, said Aku happily.
The championship standings can be found at www.fiaetcc.com.
Next race will be in Spa on 22.6.2014.
After disappointment in Slovakia - a new race in Salzburg!20.05.2014
Aku started his weekend in Slovakia well beeing the fastest on both Friday's practises. On Saturday also the qualifying went well, he ended up in third place and lost only 0,3 seconds to the poleman. And Aku had 41 kgs of success ballast on board!
The weather and the team's forecast went wrong and the setup was really wrong in both races. Aku was 5th in both races and was not able to challenge others. This was clearly a disappointment, but Aku is still leading the championship. We are now looking forward to Salzburgring next weekend! A lot of new parts will be installed and hopefully the problems do not exist any more. The weights are also more equal now.
So it's time to fight for the victory again! Stay tuned!
DOUBLEWIN AT PAUL RICARD25.04.2014
Aku started his season with a doublewin. This was of course a surprise to everyone, as Aku did only very limited tests before the first round. And it was the first time in wet conditions on Sunday morning. So after all, a wonderful start for the season!
There will be a detailed report of the weekend later on this site, so stay tuned!
AKU JOINS ETCC WITH SEAT 24.03.2014
Aku will participate in ETCC with his Italian/Finnish Team Niinivirta. This is a clear step forward in Aku’s career, as he has been successfully running several single make trophies in Italy and Europe. This season Aku will race with Seat Leon Supercopa in SMT (Single-Make Trophy).
- I am really looking forward to the season. I think ETCC is one of the best options to develop my career, because the series is part of the WTCC events that attract a lot of interest from the public and media.
There will be new tracks and also the car is new to me, so there will be some learning to do at the beginning of the season. My target is to do the best result in Spa in June. I have always done well there and I really love the circuit. But of course, I will push from the very beginning of the season, explains Aku.
Aku will have a busy season this year. He will also participate in Seat Ibiza Cupra Cup Italia where he will drive for Italian B.D. Racing.
Season opened with a test session in Mugello10.03.2014
Aku started his season with a Seat Ibiza Cupra Cup test session in sunny Mugello together with B.D Racing. There was a couple of months pause in racing and Aku has been concentrating more in studies for a while. Therefore it was very nice to do a test with the familiar Seat Ibiza Cup racer. And the lap times were very fast from the very beginning as Aku's best lap in the first stint was 2.12.1 with very old tires. During the next stints there were a lot of cars on the track and it was difficult to do a clean lap. However Aku was able to improve his time little by little and at the end of the day he ended up to 2.11.0 beeing clearly the fastest Seat Ibiza on track.
- It was nice to jump into a Seat after a while. The car was handling well and I did not have any difficulties during the day. The best time was quite ok, considering that we did not have new tires for my stints. Now it is time to finalize my program for this season. I hope we can publish everything soon, told Aku at the sunny paddock.
Aku's program for the coming season will be published next week.
SEASON DONE - TOP PACE IN MONZA - OVERALL WIN IN JUNIOR CLASS11.10.2013
A good weekend in Monza! Always the fastest when on the track during the whole weekend. Fastest on Fridays free practice, fastest in qualification on Saturday... and winning the the race 1 after Franco's stable drive and bringing the car to pit stop in P4. After Aku's fastest laps after another it was easy to bring the Niinivirta Seat to win!
Aku started the second race from P11 due to the questionable penalty from Misano race. The race was actually the first wet race during the whole season. Aku's pace was really good as after two real race laps he was leading the race! Not bad when starting from P11... Aku was able to expand the lead to almost 3 sec before the pit stop. Franco was fighting for the lead until the end but unfortunately had to retire due to a light contact with Malyshev...
So one more DNF, but anyway Aku's pace was clear and there was no doubt about the fastest driver during the weekend.
A detailed report about the whole season will be published later on, but now it is time to thank all the supporters who made this season possible: Niinivirta Transport spa, Niinivirta European cargo Oy, Aercopter spa, HuoltoRengas Laiho, OnlineSolutions Oy and Kobra.
Successfull testdays in Italy20.02.2013
Aku had his first testdays in Italy for this season. He started with Seat Ibiza in Misano World Circuit on Friday 15.2.2013. Sun was shining, but the temperature was not too high, around 10 degrees Celsius.
Seat Ibiza Cup cars have changed a bit from last year. The engine has 20 hp more, the intercooler is larger and also the rear axle has changed. Also the tires used in the Ibiza Cup have changed, now Dunlop slicks take care of the grip.
Aku performed over 80 laps and the pace was good. At the end of the day he was second fastest of all, so the test was successfull. Aku used the same set of tires all the day, so Dunlop seem to be durable enough.
On Monday and Tuesday it was time to test the very new Formula Renault in Autodromo di Riccardo Paletti, Varano. Monday was planned for seat preparation and a 20-lap shakedown. The real test started on Tuesday morning and Aku did more than 250 kms during the day, so now it is a lot easier to judge the handling of a modern single-seater. The laptimes were very good and Aku's performance during the test is a good ground for the negotiations concerning the coming season.
The decisions about Aku's race calendar will be made until the end of February. We will release news about the decision as soon as it is made. Pictures from both tests can be found from the Gallery and Facebook. Stay tuned!
Aku and Niinivirta Transport continue co-operation18.02.2013
Niinivirta Transport spa and it's Finnish subsidiary Niinivirta European Cargo Oy continue their co-operation with Aku in 2013. Last season was successful for both Aku and Niinivirta. The turnover of Niinivirta grew with 70 percent and the growth continues. The managing director of Niinivirta European Cargo Airi Kuokkanen says that the their investment on Aku was very profitable.
-" The co-operation with Aku brought about 20 percent of the total growth last year. Our aim is to expand our co-operation and do it for a long period of time", says Kuokkanen with satisfaction.
Aku's plans for season 2013 are almost ready. We will release information on these pages about the coming season as soon as everything is ready. Stay tuned...
Victories from Monza!22.10.2012
The final race weekend in Monza was succesful for Aku. He won the Trofeo Abarth 500 AC Europe and also the race in Seat Ibiza Cup Italia!
The weekend started with problems as the differential of Aku's Abarth did not work properly. Therefore Aku ended up in P3 and P2 in qualifyings. The team serviced the differential during the evening and everything looked promising for the race 1 on Saturday.
Aku had a good start and was leading the race already before the first lap was ended! Aku drove safely without any risks and crossed the finish line first. The championship was actually quaranteed and there was no need to push during the race 2 on Sunday. Aku finished third on Sunday and conquered the Trofeo Abarth 500 AC European championship!
Aku raced also in the Seat Ibiza Cup Italia. He tested the Seat for the very first time on Friday's free practice and the pace was good from the very beginning. On Saturday's qualifying AKu finished fourth and made very constant laptimes. Everything looked very promising for Sundays races.
Aku started well on race 1 and was leading the race after a couple of laps. Alberto Bergamaschi was Aku's teammate and he took the driver's seat after about 35 minutes. Alberto brought the car safely to the end of the race and finished fourth. Aku won the junior class.
The second race started almost identically and Aku was soon leading the race. He brought the car to the pit box after 35 minutes and had a good lead. Bergamaschi could start on P1 and had a very good race with 2 other cars. He was able to take the lead in Parabolica on the last lap and finished first! A very good race from the team and a nice way to end the season.
Now it is time to thank everyone that has supported Aku's season: Niinivirta Transport, OnlineSolutions, HuoltoRengas Laiho, Aercopter, Kobra and many others.
The season almost over - new things coming!30.09.2012
Trofeo Europe will have it's final race weekend in Monza on 20.-21.10.2012. Aku is leading the Abarth 500 Assetto Corse series by 18 points. The gap is not big enough to be sure of anything. The car has to be reliable and everything possible will be done to ensure the best possible reliability.
Aku will race also in the Seat Ibiza Cup in Monza together with Paolo Ferraresi. The races in Seat Ibiza Cup Italia last 48 minutes and there will be two races during the weekend. So Aku will get a lot of laps at the legendary Monza circuit.
Aku had a very good test with Formula Renault at Alastaro Circuit at the end of September. The laptimes were even better and more stable than expected. Aku will be testing different race cars during the autumn in southern Europe.
There will be a big change also in Aku's everyday routines as he starts his military service in the Sports School of the Finnish Defence forces. There he will get good coaching with physical training and will be ready for the challenges of the season 2013.
So there will be a lot of new things during the autumn! We will release news about our plans on these pages, so stay tuned...
A busy weekend in Imola05.09.2012
The race weekend at Imola circuit began with promising laptimes during the first free practice. The changes made after Red Bull Ring seemed to work well and the balance of the car felt good. Aku had the fastest laptime with a nice gap to his rivals.
The second free practice was dramatic. Aku lost his brakes just before Rivazza, drove off and rolled his car. The team staff had a lot to do, but they were confident that the car would be ok before the qualifying. Luckily the damage seemed to be only on body panels and windscreen.
The qualifying started with problems as the clutch broke down on the fastest lap. The mechanics were able to fix it before the second qualifying and Aku was full of adrenaline. He drove the fastest lap ever with a 500 AC in Imola and took the pole!
The first race started with a crash between Niklas Lilja and Tobias Tauber, and Aku succeeded to pass them both. After that the biggest problem was a slow 695 driver that was not clever enough to let Aku go. Anyway, the gap was big enough and Aku crossed the line first.
Just before the second race the mechanics noticed that the clutch was not working. There was not enough time to fix it and Aku had to start without clutch. He was able to finish the race and scored some important points. However, the gearbox needs now some attention...
Aku is leading the 500 AC championship with 17 points before the last race in Monza. The race weekend takes place on the 20.-21.10.2012. Everything needs to be prepared well, because we cannot afford any technical problems. Anyway, Aku has been clearly the fastest man on the track and will hold the lead if the car works!
AKK Driver Academy 2012 announced17.01.2012
Aku has been selected to AKK Driver Academy. Last season's success in the international Trofeo Abarth together with promising tests with different single-seaters convinced the AKK jury.
A list of the selected drivers can be found from here.
AKK Driver Academy is AKK-Motorsport's coaching team for talented young drivers. The Driver Academy's goal is to give the drivers comprehensive support and coaching on their way to professional motorsports. This way it is possible to ensure that the Finnish autosport will have international success also in the future.
Racing on the top level requires a lot. Therefore the list of subjects to be developed is long. Physical training, driving training, foreign languages, marketing - just to mention a few among the needed special skills and knowledge.
The Driver Academy will have trainig camps about 6 times during 2012. Three coaches and one information coordinator are responsible of the development of the Academy drivers.
Aku's physical training started more than one month ago under supervision of Aku Borenius. The training program will continue until April.

Aku's first test with Formula Abarth17.11.2011
Aku drove his first meters with a modern formula at Franciacorta Circuit in Italy. He used Prema Powerteam's Formula Abarth FA10. Formula Abarth has the same engine as Aku's 500 Assetto Corse, but weights much less. The 6-gear sequential gearbox comes from Sadev.
- It was really an interesting test session. The car is very precice to drive, and I had to change my driving style quite a lot since I have driven a front wheel driven touring car for several years now. A 4-hour test session is not too much to get used to a single-seater, but I am pretty happy with my laptimes. Specially the difference to the fastest time was less than I expected. I still braked too early, as the weight of the car is less than 500 kgs and it stops in a very short distance. But it is possible to enter the curves with a very high speed thanks to the downforce, told Aku with satisfaction.
Aku's time was 6th fastest and was on the top among the first timers with a difference of 1 second to the fastest one. Gallery is also updated, check a couple of pics from there.
Aku's test sessions in near future will be decided soon and negotiations about the coming season continue...
Season's last Race Weekend at Monza10.10.2011
The last Race Weekend of Trofeo Abarth 2011 will be raced at the famous Monza race track. The track is one of the fastest in the whole world and we have been told that only the 4th, 5th and 6th gears are needed and the maximum speed exceeds clearly 200 km/h. The unfortune weekend in Mugello is history and we will concentrate fully in the coming race in Monza.
The setup of Aku's Abarth will be changed according to our experiences in Mugello. We are confident that we know the reason for the understeering, and therefore we aim only to the podium. Let's hope that the tyre supplier will provide the teams with tyres that last the whole race.
We also warmly welcome the guests of Niinivirta European Cargo! Enjoy the athmosphere of the hectic Race Weekend. More information can be found here.
After the race Aku will have a 2-day testrun. The results of the test session will guide our plans for the coming seasons. There will be more test sessions this autumn, but we will publish info about them after Monza.

HEADING TO MUGELLO17.09.2011
After having almost a 2 months break in Trofeo Abarth, race activities are about to start again. The next race will be in Mugello on 1.-2.10.2011. The preparations for the race are going on with full power and Aku's Abarth will depart towards it's homeland with Niinivirta European Transport Oy on Friday 23.9.
Before leaving to Italy Aku still has a test session in Alastaro. There will be some setup changes done with the car, so that the pace would be even better and the race would go on without any problems.
Aku's goal for the season was to drive clear and make better results all the time. The mission is completed and the results have been even better than expected. After the pole position and two 2nd places in Spa, the target is to win the next race.
More information about the circuit of Mugello and the race can be found at www.mugellocircuit.it.
Thousands of visitors at the Italian Market in Helsinki22.08.2011
The Italian Market was a great success. Not only because the weather was perfect, but also the number of visitors was high. The Market was located in the middle of Helsinki City, and this seemed to be a good choice. Niinivirta European Cargo had a stand together with AKU Motorsport and the visiting stars at the stand were brand new Fiat 500C and Fiat 500 Twinair.
Aku's Abarth was certainly one of the most photographed objects at the whole market. The Italian Ambassador Mr. Giorgio Visetti visited also our stand and had a long chat with Aku. Aku invited him to Mugello and Monza, and Mr Visetti - beeing a motorsport fan - will join us there if the dates suit his calendar.
The picture below shows the Italian ambassador and Aku together with Abarth. More pics in the Gallery!
AKU'S Abarth present at Fiera italiana in Helsinki11.08.2011
Aku's race-Abarth is present at Fiera Italiana during 18.-21.8.2011 in Helsinki Lasipalatsi area on Niinivirta European Cargo's stand. The opening hours are from 12.00 to 20.00. You can experience also other superb Italian products during the fair, so it is really worth visiting! More information about the fair available here.
Double podium again in Spa09.08.2011
Aku participated in Trofeo Abarth Europe at Spa Francorchamps. The legendary race track with challenging weather changes is a must for every race driver. While Trofeo Abarth Italia is having a summer brake, it was a suitable time to visit Spa.
On Friday's free practise the track was wet, but drying. Therefore almost everyone went out on slicks and tried to stay on track. Aku finished second fastest, not bad at all for a first timer.
The qualifyings went also very well, Aku set the second fastest time for Saturday's race and pole for Sunday's! There was a peculiar incident during the first qualifying as Aku got a black flag. He drove to paddock and the officers just wanted to see Aku's license... Well, anyway a second place was not too bad.
Saturday's race was about to start and the Spa's quickly changing weather showed it's worst side again. Five minutes before the start the rain started. Luckily everyone was able to change to wet tires on the grid. After the start rain got even heavier and the race was really a struggle to survive. Several cars went off and even safety car visited the track once. Aku was able to stay on track and after the safety car pulled off, he even tried to overtake Alex Campani. However the conditions were so bad that he decided to go safely and finish the race on second place.
Sunday's weather was much better and there was no fear of rain. Aku started on pole and got a good start. He took the lead and kept it all the way until the last lap. Aku's Abarth started to vibrate badly when turning to left and Aku was not able to fight for the victory. So a second place again...
- I am very happy with the pace I had all the weekend. The first victory was close, but a technical problem is something the driver can't help. After all, we are ahead of our schedule for this season, so there is no reason to be unhappy. We have now time to have more tests and get the car even faster, told Aku after the race.
Aku's next race will be in Mugello at the beginning of October. Stay tuned!
Double podium for Aku in Imola25.07.2011
Aku had a nice race weekend at Autodromo di Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola. Finally the differential was working as it should and Aku's pace was excellent. He finished third on Saturday and second on Sunday. He won the Under 18-class in both races.
Aku's Abarth oversteered a bit and this offered a spectacular race for the spectators. However, the setup will be modified and there is still things that need to be developed before the next race. But we will do our best to improve again!
Stay tuned, we will inform about Aku's next activities soon!
NEXT STOP IMOLA - ABARTH HEADING TO ITALY08.07.2011
The next race of Trofeo Abarth Italia will be run on 16.-17.7. at Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola. Aku's Abarth was serviced and checked after the test race at Alastaro. This time the transport was trusted to professionals. Niinivirta European Cargo is specialized in transports between Italy and Finland and they took good care of our Abarth. Aku's race car will be delivered surprisingly fast to Italy and the team members can enjoy the Finnish summer a bit longer before moving to maybe even hotter Italy. Special thanks to Niinivirta European Cargo's skilled personnel for their professional service!
The race weekend will start on Friday with free practice. Qualifications and the first race will take place on Saturday and the second race on Sunday. More information on www.autodromoimola.com.
Information about Aku's race weekend will updated here as usual! Stay tuned!

First test session at Alastaro Race Circuit15.04.2011
Finally the spring reached Finland and we were able to start testing for the coming season. Our Abarth was tested at Alastaro Race Circuit. Aku improved his lap times during the test session and the tests continue on Saturday. The setup needs some tuning and testing, but we are on the right way... looking forward to start the first international season! More news will be released on Monday 18.4.2011. Stay tuned...
AKU'S ABARTH ATTRACTED VISITORS AT VM MOTORSPORTSHOW15.01.2011
Aku's new Abarth 500 Assetto Corse attracted a lot of visitors during the two day VM Motorsportshow in Helsinki. Even rallylegens like Simo Lampinen among other top drivers spent a lot of time examining the small but evil Abarth.
MERRY XMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!23.12.2010
Thanks to all our supporters for their valuable help during the season 2010. We had a wonderful season, and we work hard to keep it that way in future also! We know the challenges are growing and there will be new ones, but we believe that hard work will beat them all.
However, now it is time to rest and enjoy a peaceful moment.
Aku awarded at AKK prize giving ceremony27.11.2010
Aku received his Championship Trophy in AKK's prize giving ceremony in Turku on Saturday 27.11.2010. He received also the Karl Ebb Trophy, which is awarded to a promising young driver, who has shown excellent motosport spirit.
First Race in Varano!20.11.2010
Aku's first Abarth 500 race is now done. Varano's race track was very slippery and there was a lot of learning to do. We chose the wrong tyres for qualifying and ended up in the 15th place. Also the brakes are not the best possible, as the Varano circuit seems to affect them in a curious way... But the race was ok, and Aku was 11th at the end. The pace was already good during the after we found the right tyres.
Sunday will give us a new opportunity to learn more, and we are ready to show some progress!
